Flying bikes, an on-board brewery and the first IMAX cinema at sea: It may all sound fantastical but this is what the Carnival Vista will offer cruisers when it launches in May 2016.
At 133,500 tonnes, Vista will become the largest ship in Carnival’s fleet when it departs on its maiden voyage from Italy with up to 4,000 passengers on board.
The cruise line is billing this as their most innovative ship ever.
For adventurous types the ship’s marquee feature is the SkyRide, an 250 metre cycling track that is suspended over an upper deck with panoramic views 50 metres above the sea.
Passengers will climb aboard hanging recumbent-like bicycles and pedal around the open-air course.
Nearby will be SkyCourse, an exhilarating suspended ropes course.
In the largest WaterWorks water park in the fleet, kids and kids at heart will find a thrilling array of splash-tastic fun including Kaleid-O-Slide, the line’s first-ever water tube attraction. Riders will hop on inflatable one or two-person rafts taking them on a fun-filled adventure of exhilarating twists and turns with stunning kaleidoscopic visual effects.
The ship will feature the RedFrog which features on many of the Carnival fleet but will have its first ever brewery at sea. During each sailing two giant copper-topped glass kettles will create tasty ales and lagers that can be enjoyed on tap from the bar and through unique tabletop taps that allow guests to pour their own beer.
Only one other cruise, Germany-based Aida Cruises, which caters to the German-speaking market, has a working brewery on a ship.
The activities are not the only new offerings, with two new accommodation classes on the ship: Tropics-inspired Havana Cabanas feature accommodations with private outdoor patios – complete with lounge chairs and hammock.
f you are planning on travelling with your kids, the new Family Harbor accommodations offer an array of deluxe ocean-view, balcony and interior staterooms that accommodate up to five family members.
With all these bells and whistles, Vista will cruise in the Eastern and Western Mediterranean for three months after launching. This marks a return to Europe for the line, which left three years ago.
