Television viewers were either charmed or amused according to their personal dispositions, when the still hunky Tom Cruise, boyishly jumped on the couch and declared his ardent love for waifish actress Kate Noelle “Katie” Holmes on the Oprah Winfrey Show.

As all know, the television teen drama, Dawson’s Creek actress went on to marry the twice divorced Tom Cruise, in 2006, in a lavish ceremony and form the famous ‘TomKat’ pair! But, six years later with young daughter, Suri in tow, Katie Holmes shocked not only the world, but Tom Cruise too, when she fled in a highly secretive and elaborate manner, away from her husband, whilst he was busy shooting for his movie. She moved away to New York and filed for divorce on June 29. 2012. It was a field day for tabloids as they speculated on the reasons behind her move. It is only now that Tom Cruise has come out and admitted that the reason behind Katie Holmes filing for divorce was that she wanted to get their daughter, Suri out of the religious influence of Scientology.

Scientology might be variously labelled as religion or cult, but its most high profile devotee, Tom Cruise seems to be suffering in his personal life because of its beliefs. It does seem kind of strange that Katie Holmes, who knew of Tom’s strong and openly stated personal beliefs in Scientology, rejected him because of the same. Was there an element of cold calculation in the marriage or even in the timing of her filing for divorce or was there naivety on Katie Holmes’ part who perhaps believed that the love of a woman could change a man? The answer is probably known to only her.

Katie Holmes has been in only a few relationships before her marriage. Her beaus include actor Joshua Jackson, who was her co-star in the Dawson’s Creek show. She called him her ‘first love’ and dated him during the early runs of the show.
