A cruise line with just three ships needs to change destinations more often to entice customers back to the cruise line. Most ships, especially smaller, luxury ships are constantly repositioning so their loyal customers have a reason to cruise more often.

The best repositioning cruise is a world cruise, even if it isn't really a repositioning cruise since it ends where it started. Still, technically any cruise that sails from one cruising region to another is a repositioning cruise, so never mind the definitions, I'm on a world cruise. Ask me when I get back.
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16786386578004458343noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21002443.post-64603738208571242382017-09-25T19:54:00.000-07:002017-09-25T19:54:00.241-07:00Valuable, Exclusive Discounts + FREE Drinks, Specialty Dining + Kids-Sail-FREE Deals! Further aft, the ship offers two outdoor pool areas: One amidships with a sliding canopy, the other a more secluded spot overlooking the stern. The designers of the Golden Princess wanted private verandahs to be available to virtually everyone, and this ship has more than 700 cabins with balconies, ranging from standard outside cabins to mini-suites and full suites. An unusual tiered design means the balcony above doesn’t block the sun, but nor does it offer much in the way of privacy. It’s worth noting that except for the handful of mini-suites on Emerald Deck, the majority of staterooms in this category are situated on the completely-uncovered Dolphin Deck. В Regular balcony staterooms one deck up on Caribe deck feature balconies that are half covered, half-uncovered.

Golden Princess features an attractive covered pool area known as The Conservatory. With multiple destinations, numerous on-board and off-board activities, and plenty of foods and drinks, a cruise holiday is definitely worth considering. But with recent outbreaks of the norovirus, and other deadly diseases, many are starting to get worried about their health and safety when boarding cruise ships. So before you cancel your booking, here are a few helpful tips on how to stay healthy even when on a cruise holiday.

Why The Recent Rash Of Cruise Ship Outbreaks?

With the recent outbreak of rubella, measles and norovirus on some of the major cruise ships last year, the thought of booking great cruise deals may now seem quite risky and pointless. But when you look at the number of people going on 3 or 4-day, or weekend cruises, which went up to an estimated 20 million passengers last year, the risk of encountering an outbreak is quite slim.

Image From: iclipart. com

Like any other places on earth, cruise ships can become a hotbed for viruses and bacteria as thousands of people get on board every year. Cruise ships also visit places with poor sanitation records. Thus, when ship passengers drop by certain ports-of-call, and eat at the local restaurants, they could catch a couple of viruses, mold, mildew and bacteria.

In some of the recent outbreaks on luxury cruises, raw or undercooked oysters, fruits and vegetables have been the culprits. The norovirus for example, is a very contagious and tough virus to contain. It can thrive in extreme temperatures and on different surfaces.

As soon as one person gets infected on luxury cruise ships, the virus or bacteria can quickly pass from one individual to another through hand-shaking, close contact and through shared food and utensils.

Maintaining Good Health Even on a Cruise Ship

While the chances of a person contracting a nasty virus or bacteria while on a group or family holiday on a cruise ship are slim, it would still pay dividends if you take the necessary precautions.

Image From: iclipart. com

One of the best ways to prevent illnesses is to frequently wash your hands with soap and water. Wash before eating, using the bathroom, and before touching railings, door handles and other items. Bring along an alcohol-based hand sanitizer everywhere you go, whether on or off the ship.

At the ship’s ports of call, always make sure you follow all the standard food and water precautions. Check that the food you eat off-board is cooked and served hot, and drink water or other beverages only from sealed containers. If you want to eat fresh fruit or vegetables, make sure you have them washed with clean water, and peel them by yourself.
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16786386578004458343noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21002443.post-13177275903046722202017-09-24T21:43:00.000-07:002017-09-24T21:43:01.944-07:00Carnival Victory Overview
Cruise Critic

By Ashley Kosciolek. Editor

We mean this in the nicest way: 2,758-passenger Carnival Victory has a comfortable, worn-in feel. The overall operation, much like the captain's daily weather and navigation briefings, comes off as effortless. In harmony with the gentle rocking of the ship, it's easy to fall into a sleepy rhythm.

As such, Carnival Victory serves as an excellent intro to Carnival Cruise Line for the uninitiated -- and a quick escape for the line's aficionados.

The vessel's theme -- the high seas -- carries through the ship via a largely green and blue color scheme, complete with dark woods and blue-green Tiffany-style glass domes in both the atrium area and the entrance to the Pacific Dining Room. Busts of mermaids and mermen adorn the Pacific and its counterpart, the Atlantic Dining Room, and seahorses can be found anchoring the railings in stairwells throughout the ship. (Be careful: When taking turns too tightly on the stairs, we found ourselves slamming into the seahorses' noses more than once.)

A (modified) member of the Destiny-class of vessels, Carnival Victory has all the traditional Carnival accoutrements: an exuberant main dining room and a two-deck Lido buffet complex; a bright, centrally located casino; a bar-lined promenade; an impressive spa; a comprehensive Camp Carnival program for kids; a daily schedule of jocular activities; and more than enough places to drink and socialize.

The ship also features a few contemporary touches, including a sushi bar and drive-in style poolside movie screen. In a 2015 overhaul that mostly updated carpeting and soft furnishings, the ship received a couple of Carnival's Fun Ship 2.0 enhancements, as well: the Alchemy Bar. Skybox Sports Bar and Punchliner Comedy Club. Other 2.0 features -- like Guy's Burger Joint and BlueIguana Cantina, found on many of Victory's fleetmates -- are markedly absent.

It's admirable that no one puts on airs -- from the tabletop dancing dining room waiters, to the dryly sarcastic blackjack dealers, to the amiable bartenders who call you "chief" or "boss." Most of the nearly 2,800 passengers give the impression of being quite content with this, and why wouldn't they? There's no pressure placed on the ship to be anything that it's not, and the guests feed off this.

For a Carnival first-timer, it's also relevant to note that, while Carnival has, in the past, been pigeonholed as the slack-jawed, party line (perhaps the line itself is guilty of emphasizing this rep with its own "Fun Ship" distinction), in reality it offers a more impressive range of options than it's given credit for.

Ultimately, you get a sailing full of evenhanded leisure at a decent price. It's like a comfortable dream, of which you remember little more than a general feeling of well-being.

It's also a ship that lends itself to celebrations of all kinds. On our three-night sailing, there were 134 birthdays, 58 anniversaries, 31 honeymoons, three family reunions, two weddings and one marriage proposal.

Carnival Victory Fellow Passengers

Carnival attracts an outgoing set of North American couples, families and multigenerational groups, many hailing from cities within driving distance (Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Texas, Alabama and the Carolinas). The most common states from which fly-to-port passengers are drawn are New York and California. The average passenger age is in the 40s. Expect an influx of families in the summer months and over school holidays.

Carnival Victory Dress Code

During the day, beachy or port-specific attire is the norm. Carnival's evening dress code is typically "Cruise Casual," but on one night during the voyage "Cruise Elegant" eveningwear is suggested. On cruise casual nights, the line recommends sport slacks, khakis, jeans (no cutoffs), long dress shorts and collared sport shirts for men, and casual dresses, casual skirts or pants and blouses, summer dresses, capri pants, dress shorts and jeans (no cutoffs) for women. Cruise Elegant dress means dress slacks, dress shirts and sport coats (suggested not required) for men and cocktail dresses, pantsuits, or elegant skirts and blouses for women. On elegant nights, passengers may choose to dress more formally in suits and ties, tuxedos or evening gowns, but that isn't common.

Carnival Victory Gratuity
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16786386578004458343noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21002443.post-80198229029453817942017-09-24T15:56:00.000-07:002017-09-24T15:56:04.992-07:00What's New for Voyages of Discovery?
In 2014, Cruise Critic awarded Voyages of Discovery their UK Editors' Picks Award for "Best Itineraries".

2012 brought the addition of mv Voyager to the fleet. This mid-range size allows Voyager to visit interesting and historic destinations worldwide, great cities and monuments from the ancient and modern worlds.

The ship was built in 1990 and joined the line in 2012. After some major upgrades, the Voyager now has 278 cabins, almost 90% outside; 30 have balconies. In-cabin digital media players provide entertainment with a variety of movies, concerts and documentaries. There are three dining options, including a specialty restaurant (reservations required) and an alfresco option at the Veranda restaurant.

A piano bar was added, the library was refreshed, soft goods in public places were upgraded — and for scenery-watching, the Lookout Lounge now offers panoramic views. They Voyager has a pool, whirlpools, a small spa and Internet center.

In the coming years, Voyager will travel to many new destinations – in Africa, Iceland, India, the North Cape and the Baltic.

Voyages of Discovery is best for:

Adults looking for off-the-beaten track expedition-style cruises;

Those seeking an educational experience rich in history and culture.

MV Voyager (540 passengers)

The atmosphere and experience onboard Voyages of Discovery :

The Voyager is comfortable understated, relaxing and charming, without big-ship flash. The port of Messina has a protective industrial zone in the shape of a reverse shaped "C" for large vessels and cruise ships. At the entrance/exit of the port, there are piers (at 10:00 o'clock, in the left upper corner of the photo to the right) which provide mooring and protection for smaller boats. You can see a close up here. While theVista was leaving port, it came perilously close to the piers and the thrust from its stern created a turmoil which turned over the piers and swamped smaller moored vessels, sinking several of the boats.

The damage to the piers was so severe that some of the passengers thought that the Vista must have hit the piers and boats.

The passengers stated that it was a "beautiful, sunny and calm day" when the accident occurred.

I am assuming that a local pilot may have been on-board at the time, although it is less than clear who was in control of the cruise ship when it damaged the piers and boats. There were reportedly no announcements afterward from the captain regarding what happened. According to these passengers, the Vista "didn't stop and we were slightly delayed out of port."

A number of Italian newspapers published articles today, saying that the local port authority is conducting an investigation regarding the incident. One newspaper reports that the Vista caused damage to two concrete piers and sank several boats "under the astonished gaze of several citizens." This newspaper further states that "for a moment, it was feared that the situation could escalate and that the same cruise ship might not be able to straighten the course and regain the open sea."

You can watch dramatic video of the Vista as it swamped the piers and boats in an article by the Italian newspaper Gazzetta del Sud which we posted to our Facebook page.

The photo below is from the Tempostretto. The Dream Blog Cruise Magazine has posted the video below, with a credit to Gazzetta del Sul:

Update : An Italian newspaper says that that there was reportedly 250,000 euros in damage caused by the Carnival ship due to "two piers destroyed, one beyond repair, a number of ancillary facilities (such as anchor lines of the boats) damaged, a pilot of the mooring sunk and another dozen small boats in poor condition."

August 30 2016 Update : Another Italian newspaper accurately characterized the waves generated by the Vista as "a small tsunami," which trampled two wharves and boats moored at Marina del Nettuno.

September 4 2016 Update. You can see another video of the incident here. from the Facebook page of Ships of Messina, showing another angle of the disaster caused by the Vista's wake.

September 10 201:Update : Here's a video taken from a passenger aboard the cruise ship, showing another angle of the incident. The sun came and went, with temperatures in the 60s-70s.

We had breakfast in the Windjammer, and were treated to complimentary mimosas as a “thank you” by the crew for a great sailing.

We spent the rest of our morning taking it easy, making a few stops around the ship. My oldest went for a swim with grandma, while we took our youngest to the playroom in Adventure Ocean.

For lunch, we decided to stop by Coastal Kitchen. The food was great, but I think what endears guests to Coastal Kitchen is the great service.

After lunch there was adult coloring in Vintages, although that just meant the coloring sheets available were a bit more complex. My wife and oldest daughter took advantage of the offering and enjoyed it.

To my (pleasant) surprise, the temperatures actually got high enough in the late afternoon for it to feel hot outside. Any opportunity to not wear jackets is a welcome one!

We received an invite to tour the bridge of the ship from the Suite Concierge. Bridge tours are always a lot of fun, and on a newer ship like Anthem, it is incredible to see how these ships operate.

We spent the afternoon packing up our things, which lead to a late afternoon hankering for a snack. I headed down to Michael’s Genuine Pub to try something that caught my eye since my first day onboard: falafel.

I love falafel and was a little leery about how good cruise ship falafel could be. I can report back it was fresh, crispy and had great flavor.

It was served with sliced beets and tahini sauce, and tasted very good. For $3, I thought it was a great deal!

For our pre-dinner drinks, we started out at the Solarium Bar and regretted we did not spend more time there. The bar staff there were great and you cannot beat that view.

We wandered down to the Schooner Bar as just somewhere to sit for a bit before dinner, and discovered an impromptu show where the cast of We Will Rock You “took over” the piano music being played, and sang Broadway hits along with the music.

The musical director for We Will Rock You was scheduled to be the pianist in the Schooner Bar, but the fact his cast joined him was an added bonus. My wife, who is a big musical fan, absolutely loved the show.

We had seem something like this on Allure of the Seas, but it had been a while since we experienced a show like this again. I hope Royal Caribbean takes advantage of the amazing vocal talents they have onboard and continue to let them entertain guests in this fashion. The guests were loving the performance, and we could tell the cast was enjoying seeing who could sing each song the best.

Dinner was in the main dining room, and we decided to call it an early evening with the impending early start to our departure looming.

I have to say we had a great time on Anthem of the Seas, and it was due to the fantastic crew members, terrific dining onboard and the great places we visited. Having very good weather did not hurt, either.

I believe Anthem of the Seas is a great ship for a first time cruiser because I feel like Royal Caribbean designed this ship with first timers in mind. Likewise, for established cruisers, Anthem is also a very good choice because I liked how it is different from the other classes in the fleet. Those ships tend to have a lot of similarities, but Royal Caribbean built the Quantum class ships to be different, and that made this cruise a bit of a new experience.

We had really great service throughout the cruise, from our stateroom attendant who was always available to help with anything we needed, to the main dining room waiter who figured out I really like coffee ice cream and had it ready for me each evening as a surprise.

I always struggle with how to best wrap up the cruise, so I will list here some of my favorite aspects of the cruise.

Favorite port: CocoCay Favorite specialty restaurant: Jamie’s Italian Favorite dish in main dining room: Spaghetti Bolognese (seriously) Favorite show: We Will Rock You

Thank you to everyone for following along in our live blog! I really enjoy sharing these cruises, and I also had a great time reading everyone’s comments and questions along the way.

My next live blog will be coming to you from the world’s largest cruise ship, Harmony of the Seas in September 2017. In fact, you can join the fun and cruise with me and many other Royal Caribbean fans by joining us for our group cruise! Here are more details on how you can join us!
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16786386578004458343noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21002443.post-46840714723983969642017-09-23T18:19:00.000-07:002017-09-23T18:19:00.348-07:00Entertainment and Recreation
There are plenty of activities onboard Crystal Cruises, which cater for all ages and tastes. The luxury market understands that some people, and we are included, do not like to be signing for each drink, cookie, soda for the children, yoga, gym time or anything else. We want one price, period. Although we do maintain our privilege to tip any crew or staff member that shows us what a quality cruise experience can mean. Luxury cruises can offer a relief from the premium cruise lines, where there are a zillion people and they charge you for every little item and drinks. They have so many profit centers set up that in the final analysis the premium cruise might cost as much as the six-star ship you're thinking about. The little charges on a premium line compared to all-inclusive on the luxury lines can add up fast. Compare premium to luxury and be surprised, the true value is in luxury cruising. Around the world cruise or a Silversea cruise vacation we provide the best ships with innovative amenities and enrich programs to match.

A cheap or discount cruise price will not always render you the best cruise deal. Also, a no tipping or gratuities included in the cruise pricing is standard on some luxury lines. Of course you can tip anyone on any ship even if tips are included.

When you compare the premium cruise lines cost and the extra charges they add, you may be surprised that a luxury cruise will not only offer you much more in comfort and luxury, but, also it could save you some cruise dollars. which we all like. Personally, I hate signing those little bar receipts and trying to remember how many I signed. I feel like a fool when I have to pay $5.00 for a soft drink when I can get them included on most upscale luxury cruise lines.
