Delivery of New 88,500-Ton Carnival Pride

'Float Out' of New 88,500-Ton Carnival Legend

In a traditional maritime hand-over ceremony at Kvaerner Masa-Yards in Helsinki, Carnival Cruise Lines, a unit of Carnival Corporation, took delivery of the new 88,500-ton Carnival Pride. the 16th vessel in the line's "Fun Ship" fleet.

Following the hand-over ceremony, Carnival Pride 's sister ship, the 88,500-ton Carnival Legend. was floated out of her building dock. Now in the final stages of construction, Carnival Legend will inaugurate the line's first-ever European sailings in August 2002.

"For these two events - the delivery of the Carnival Pride and the float-out of the Carnival Legend - to take place on the same day is truly special and marks a significant milestone in the continued growth of Carnival Cruise Lines," said Bob Dickinson, Carnival president.

Carnival Pride sailed on its inaugural cruise, a six-day western Caribbean voyage from Miami, Dec. 30, 2001, and then served as the venue for an overnight fundraising gala benefiting the United Way of Miami-Dade. Carnival Pride then repositioned to its permanent homeport of Port Canaveral, Fla. On Jan. 12, 2002 Carnival Pride launched seven-day eastern and western Caribbean service, becoming the newest and largest cruise ship to operate year-round from Port Canaveral.

Dr. Tamara Jernigan to Serve as Carnival Pride Godmother

U. S. Space Travel Pioneer Named Carnival's Newest 'Fun Ship'

in Dockside Ceremony in Port Canaveral January 7, 2002

Dr. Tamara Jernigan, a pioneer in U. S. space travel who has logged more flight hours on the space shuttle than any other female astronaut in history, has been selected to serve as godmother of the 88,500-ton Carnival Pride. Carnival Cruise Lines' new cruise ship which launched year-round seven-day service from Port Canaveral, Fl. January 12, 2002.

Dr. Jernigan "officially" named Carnival Pride in a dockside ceremony at Port Canaveral on January 7th. Following the naming ceremony, Carnival Pride departed on a two-day preview cruise for more than 2,000 members of the travel trade.

"We're very proud to have someone of Dr. Jernigan's stature serve as the godmother to the Carnival Pride. which promises to be a spectacular addition to the 'Fun Ship' fleet," said Bob Dickinson, Carnival president. "With the Space Coast, which encompasses both Port Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Center, such a vital part of Florida's history and economy, it's only fitting that a highly respected former astronaut name our newest Port Canaveral-based cruise ship," he added.

Dr. Jernigan's role as Carnival Pride godmother represents yet another milestone in a remarkable career that includes five flights on the Space Shuttle comprising 1,512 hours in space -- the most of any female astronaut. She is also the youngest female astronaut selected to participate in a manned space mission. Her many space flight achievements include a record-setting 423-hour, 53-minute mission aboard the space shuttle Columbia. as well as a 253-hour, 13-minute mission aboard the Discovery during which the crew performed the first docking to the International Space Station. During this mission, Dr. Jernigan performed a lengthy spacewalk to transfer tools and equipment required to continue the assembly of the space station.

She is a five-time recipient of the NASA Space Flight Medal and a two-time recipient of NASA's Distinguished Service Medal. She has also received NASA's Outstanding Leadership Medal, Outstanding Performance Award and Exceptional Service Medal, as well as the Laurels Award from Aviation Week magazine.

Dr. Jernigan, who earned a doctorate in space physics and astronomy from Rice University has held a variety of technical assignments during her astronaut tenure, including deputy chief of the astronaut office and lead astronaut for the space station. She recently accepted a position at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory as the assistant associate director for physics and advanced technologies.

Carnival Pride 's vast array of on-board amenities includes 16 bars and lounges with interiors celebrating the "icons of beauty" that exist in painting, architecture, sculpture and décor. Additionally, 80 percent of Carnival Pride 's 1,062 staterooms offer an ocean view with 80 percent of those featuring private verandahs.

Works of International Artists Adorn Interiors

of New 88,5000-Ton Carnival Pride

From ornate glass vases and colorful paintings to huge bronze statues of Roman and Greek gods, the artwork to be featured aboard the Carnival Pride is an eclectic mix of classic and contemporary design that enhances the ship's dramatic interiors.

Included among the diverse, multi-million-dollar collection are 70 decorative vases and candleholders by Czech glass artist Borek Sipek, who created similar works for the Carnival Pride 's sister ship, Carnival Spirit. For Carnival Pride. Sipek took a unique approach for his trademark glass pieces, incorporating Renaissance-inspired touches to create the ornate yet beautifully contemporary works, which are located in glass cases positioned in the ship's stair landings.

The classic/contemporary design concept is also carried out in a series of bronze statues of the mythical figures Venus, Apollo and Poseidon created by Italian sculptor Katia Tasselli. These six-foot-high figures, each of which took several months to complete due to the complexity of their design, dramatically enhance the areas surrounding the pools that bear their names.

Adorning the Carnival Pride 's stair landings and bulkheads are 27 original murals by British artist Andrea Tana, whose works can be seen on several Carnival vessels, as well as in private and public collections worldwide. Inspired by artists such as Gaugin and Matisse, Tana's panels have an almost luminous quality, achieved by mixing several different hues in sweeping patterns of blue, green, yellow, amber and other colors.

Featured in Carnival Pride 's 1,062 staterooms are 15 motifs and 14 original oil paintings by American artist Janine Alter, whose works are typically inspired by her travels throughout the world. For Carnival Pride. Alter drew upon her recent visit to Provençe, France, creating a series of warm, pastel-hued paintings inspired by the area's legendary countryside.

Rounding out the collection are the works of Italian artist Augusto Vignali, whose colorful motifs of stunning female figures enhance the Carnival Pride's passenger corridors.

Carnival Pride to Feature Joe's World-Famous Stone Crabs

As part of an exclusive agreement between Joe's Stone Crab Restaurant and Carnival Cruise Lines, stone crab claws from the world-famous Miami Beach eatery will be served aboard the line's new 88,500-ton Carnival Pride.

The succulent crustaceans, which made their shipboard debut on Carnival Spirit last year, will be among the featured menu items in David's, the Carnival Pride 's "steakhouse-style" supper club serving USDA prime aged beef, seafood and other upscale cuisine in a refined atmosphere. David's will carry a $20 per person reservations fee.

"Stone crabs from Joe's were an immediate hit aboard the Carnival Spirit - an average of 300 pounds of claws are consumed each week - and we're delighted to offer this unforgettable culinary experience on the Carnival Pride " said Bob Dickinson, Carnival president.

The 2,124-passenger Carnival Pride debuted from Port Canaveral January 12, 2002, on week-long eastern and western Caribbean departures, becoming the newest and largest cruise ship to sail year-round from this rapidly expanding Central Florida port.

Port Canaveral's Newest and Largest Cruise Ship, Complemented by Enticing Itineraries, to Provide Exceptional Caribbean Cruise Experience

Port Canaveral's, newest and largest cruise ship, the 88,500-ton Carnival Pride, which entered service Jan. 12, 2002, will feature a stunning and creative interior design combined with highly attractive year-round Caribbean itineraries.

The Carnival Pride's guest-friendly design is the result of 20 years of shipbuilding experience by Carnival Cruise Lines. With this ship, Carnival will for the first time offer seven-day cruises from Port Canaveral, whose location is convenient for guests driving from areas of Florida and the Southeast, as well as close to the Orlando airport and the many theme parks and attractions in Central Florida.

The Carnival Pride has a guest capacity of 2,124, providing a passenger-space ratio of 40 -- far greater than most mass-market cruise ships and rivaling many premium vessels. Carnival Pride features an attractive, long, lean hull design and an interior layout that leads guests from one public area to the next in a seamless flow.

Eighty percent of the vessel's staterooms have an ocean view, and 80 percent of those have verandahs -- providing an intimate and private venue for enjoying the spectacular turquoise waters of the Caribbean.

Equipped with the Azipod propulsion system, Carnival Pride can achieve a maximum speed of 24 and a service speed of 22 knots, enabling it to reach its far-flung Caribbean ports of call from Port Canaveral with ease.

The Carnival Pride is slated to sail year-round seven-day cruises departing Saturdays from Port Canaveral. The eastern Caribbean route calls at either Half Moon Cay or Salt Cay -- both private Bahamas out islands -- St. Thomas/St. John, and St. Maarten, while providing three "Fun Days" at sea. This itinerary marks the first time Carnival has featured a private island on one of its cruise programs.

On western Caribbean sailings, the Carnival Pride calls at Key West, Fla.; Belize City, Belize; Playa del Carmen/Cozumel and Progreso/Merida, Mexico; with two "Fun Days" at sea to enjoy the ship's varied on-board amenities.

"We believe that this combination of departing from Port Canaveral, outstanding ship design, unique ports of call and multiple days at sea creates a very attractive vacation alternative for our guests," said Bob Dickinson, president of Carnival Cruise Lines.

Among the Carnival Pride's design highlights are two atriums, one of which is an impressive nine decks high and capped by a dramatic red-tinted glass dome that forms the forward portion of the ship's funnel. Located at the top of this soaring structure is David's, an elegant reservations-only supper club whose menu includes prime aged beef, South African lobster, and a variety of other gourmet items.

The Carnival Pride also has a full walk-around promenade on Atlantic Deck, unusual on modern-day cruise ships. The majority of the promenade is exterior, allowing guests to stroll the circumference of the ship in the fresh sea air.

Carnival Pride seemingly has a dance floor at every turn. From the Beauties Dance Club to the Starry Night jazz club, the Rafael Lounge, Ivory Bar, Butterflies Lounge and the grand Taj Mahal show lounge, dancing to live and recorded music is available throughout the ship.

The Carnival Pride's interior promenade meanders through public rooms on two decks, linking the ship's two atriums with myriad dining, entertainment and shopping venues.

The Via Veneto is a quaint shopping street on Atlantic Deck featuring a series of storefronts housing exclusive shops, boutiques and Carnival logo products.

The main dining room -- the stunning Normandie Restaurant -- is two decks high with wrap-around windows located aft on Promenade and Atlantic Decks.

Other highlights of the Carnival Pride include a chapel suitable for weddings or religious services; multi-level Nautica Spa; expansive casino; retractable glass cover over the main Lido Deck pool; "Fun House" children's facility; and an Internet café located in the Nobel Library.

'Family-Friendly' Amenities on New Carnival Pride

New 2,124-Passenger 'Fun Ship' Further Bolsters Carnival's Position as Family Cruise Leader, Carrying an Estimated 350,000 Kids Annually

For its new 88,500-ton Carnival Pride - which began year-round seven-day service from Port Canaveral, Florida, Jan. 12, 2002 - Carnival Cruise Lines has incorporated a variety of new and expanded "family-friendly" amenities, everything from geography classes and candy-making machines to special family activities on a private island, teens-only shore excursions, and fun, "just-for-kids" port lectures.

These new features, part of the line's fleetwide complimentary "Camp Carnival" program, are expected to further bolster the line's position as family cruise leader. In the coming year Carnival is expected to carry more than 350,000 children, roughly half of the kids carried by the entire North American cruise industry (CLIA member lines).

"Families are a huge part of our marketing mix - oftentimes, children's input can 'make or break' the final vacation decision -- and with the Carnival Pride we've gone to great lengths to create a stimulating environment with a variety of activities and amenities that appeal to parents and kids alike," said Bob Dickinson, Carnival president.

New and Expanded 'Family-Friendly' Amenities

Among the new family-friendly amenities are fun, educational geography classes during which kids can learn interesting facts about the various islands featured on the Pride's eastern and western Caribbean itineraries. Kids can also make their own "pixie sticks" with the Carnival Pride's new "candy-making" machines.

Carnival Pride's bi-monthly visits to Half Moon Cay or Salt Cay, both private Bahamian out-islands on the Pride's eastern Caribbean cruises, provide the line a unique opportunity to create special family-oriented beachside activities, including sand-castle building and water games. In addition to enjoying beautiful white-sand beaches and modern facilities, families can partake in a variety of watersports, including snorkeling, kayaking and "aqua-cycling."

Other new features include "teens-only" shore excursions, in which teens get together and select their favorite shore tour and then visit the destination accompanied by a member of the youth staff.

Indoor and Outdoor Play Areas

The focal point of many of the Pride's "Camp Carnival" activities is the "Fun Club," located forward on Upper Deck 5. Decorated with a colorful undersea motif designed by Carnival's interior architect Joe Farcus, the "Fun Club" is divided into three distinct areas, each connected by a series of tunnels connecting the different venues.

The first area houses an arts and crafts center featuring spin and sand art machines, while the second houses a computer lab with educational and video game software. The third section, an all-ages play room, is stocked with a variety of toys and games, a "video wall" displaying movies and cartoons, and kid-sized tables and chairs. New to this area are multi-lingual, touch-screen computer games, previously featured on Carnival's 100,000-plus-ton "Destiny - class" vessels.

An outdoor play area featuring mini-basketball hoops and other playground equipment is also available on Sports Deck 11. "Real Virtuality," a high-tech game room housing the latest video and arcade games, is located one deck below the "Fun Club" on Main Deck 4.

Carnival Pride also features four swimming pools, including a children's wading pool on Sports Deck 11 and three pools on Lido Deck 9. A two-deck-high cascading water slide featuring a variety of exhilarating twists and turns is also featured on Sports Deck 11.

Spacious Accommodations, 'Kid-Friendly' Dining Options

Carnival is known throughout the cruise industry for offering some of the largest staterooms in the contemporary market and the Carnival Pride continues that tradition, offering several levels of cabin categories, many of which can accommodate up to four guests. Many staterooms are interconnecting, perfect for large families or family gatherings.

And when it comes to dining, kids get the full "Fun Ship" treatment with special children's menus in the Normandie restaurant and a wide variety of children's favorites such as hot dogs, hamburgers and French fries available at Mermaids' Grille, a casual poolside eatery which also features 24-hour pizza and ice cream/frozen yogurt. Kids can also "dine under the stars" with a member of the youth staff one night during each voyage.

Other "kid-friendly" dining amenities include a turn-down service offering freshly baked chocolate chip cookies on the first and last night of their voyage, as well as the "Fountain Fun Card," a fleetwide soft drink program good for unlimited sodas throughout the duration of the cruise. The cards, which are purchased once on board, range in price from $7 for two-day voyages to $19.95 for seven-day voyages.

Nightly babysitting is also available from 10 p. m. to 3 a. m. in the children's play room. Conducted under the watchful eyes of the Carnival Pride's trained youth staff, the cost is $6 for the first child and $4 for each additional child in the same family.

Seven-Day Eastern and Western Caribbean Itineraries

The 2,124-passenger Carnival Pride launched seven-day eastern and western Caribbean service from Port Canaveral, Fla. Jan. 12, becoming the newest and largest cruise ship based year-round at that port.

Eastern Caribbean cruises feature the private Bahamian island of Half Moon Cay or Salt Cay, along with St. Thomas/St. John, and St. Maarten, while the western route stops at Key West, Belize City, Progreso/Merida, and Playa del Carmen/Cozumel.

Varied Manifestations of Beauty Highlight Interiors of New Carnival Pride

"Icons of Beauty" is the central idea for the design of Carnival Cruise Lines' newest cruise ship, the Carnival Pride, which launched year-round seven-day service from Port Canaveral, Florida on January 12, 2002.

Finding inspiration in everything from classic architecture and artistic masterpieces to athletic achievement and the human body, Carnival's interior architect Joe Farcus has created an environment on the Carnival Pride that provides guests with representations of beauty in all its manifestations.

"Beauty can be interpreted in many ways," said Farcus, "from the physical to the spiritual to the experiential."

To set the state for the variety of icons of beauty presented on the Carnival Pride. Farcus chose the Renaissance as inspiration for the lobby, atrium, elevator and stairwell areas. Here, the arts and craftsmanship of the Italian Renaissance are reflected in rich details of wood, bronze moldings and dominated by gold, sienna and burnt-red tones. Reproductions of murals by Botticelli, Raphael and other Italian painters adorn the walls.

Architectural beauty is celebrated in the Taj Mahal show lounge and Normandie Restaurant. The show lounge is filled with intricate Indian designs, elephant friezes and stonework with small jewels pressed into decorative designs and illuminated from behind. The restaurant decor, which emphasizes dark wood and deco accents, is based on the famous transatlantic liner Normandie - which is considered by many to have been the most beautiful passenger vessel ever built.

The beauty of experience is represented in both the Perfect Game sports bar and the Winner's Club casino. The sports bar has a fanciful motif of every imaginable sports ball serving as wall sculptures and table bases - even the carpet depicts sports balls, while the curtains resemble basketball hoop netting. The casino replicates the atmosphere of victory in the Jockey Club at the Kentucky Derby with a mural of Churchill Downs and bas-relief statues of jockeys and paintings of horses in the walls and ceiling.

Beautiful art is celebrated in the Starry Night jazz club and the Ivory Bar, the Carnival Pride's piano bar. The jazz club's interior gives the appearance of having walked into a courtyard surrounded by walls and windows and shutters, while the famous Van Gogh painting "Starry Night" is used as a wall and ceiling mural illuminated by tiny lights. The piano bar highlights the Japanese penchant for netsuki, or Japanese ivory carvings. Resin-cast reproductions of ivory carvings are interspersed with cast bonsai trees and pagoda-like lanterns in a room dominated by warm wood tones.

The beauty of ideas and intellectual achievement is enshrined in the Nobel Library, which also houses the Carnival Pride's Internet Cafe. Named after the famous prize created by Alfred Nobel, the room has a simple, Swedish design that falls somewhere between classical and art deco. Portraits of Nobel, the King of Sweden and award ceremonies adorn walls painted in Windsor blue and trimmed in light green.

Natural beauty is celebrated in both the Sunset Garden and Butterflies Lounge. Located at the forward end of Atlantic deck and forming the enclosed portion of the ship's exterior promenade, Sunset Garden provides a quiet, relaxing spot decorated in the colors of sunset - gold, umber and burnt red - with murals of Old Sol painted on the interior walls. Butterflies Lounge has faux windows that are decorated with colorful transparent fabrics that resemble butterfly wings which disappear under special lights to illuminate the flocks of butterflies behind. Neon and black lights illumine metallic-glitter butterflies on the walls and four different butterfly patterns in the upholstery.

The beauty of the human body is celebrated in Beauties Dance Club, David's Supper Club and the Mermaids' Grille.

In the dance club, varicolored male and female torsos - a la Venus de Milo - line the walls, support the tables and decorate the ceiling. Walls and ceilings are of antique-look one-way mirrors illuminated from behind with flashing and neon lights for a variety of effects. One wall is dominated by a two-deck-high video display which can mix live video, special effects and prerecorded images to accompany the dance music.

David's Supper Club is an upscale alternative reservations-only restaurant. Located at the top of a soaring nine-deck high atrium and housed under a red-tinted glass dome that forms the forward portion of the Carnival Pride's massive winged funnel, the restaurant sports a full-size replica of the famous Michelangelo sculpture, "David." The room is replete in wood accents in a contemporary interpretation of Renaissance style.

The casual Mermaids' Grille features three-dimensional cast sculptures of a school of mythical half-woman half-fish being. The figures are finished in weathered copper and appear to float on sprays of cascading water, made of clear acrylic and illuminated from within. Between the banquettes are figures of a boy riding a dolphin, also supported on a column of "water." Window walls are covered with a mirror material antiqued to resemble seawater. Multi-colored shells in hues of blue and green cover the ceiling.

The Lido Deck pool area features a grand mural of Botticelli's "Birth of Venus." The pools are named after Apollo and Poseidon, and bronze sculptures of the Greek gods on pedestals are located between the pools.

FORE! Golf Program Featured Aboard new Carnival Pride

Golfers sailing aboard the Carnival Pride from Port Canaveral, Florida will have the opportunity to receive one-on-one instruction from PGA-certified professionals, as well as play some of the top courses in the Caribbean and Mexico.

"We're very excited about the Carnival Pride's new seven-day program from Port Canaveral, which not only offers guests an opportunity to visit a variety of tropical destinations throughout the Caribbean and Mexico but also play some of the region's most beautiful and challenging golf courses," said Bob Dickinson, Carnival president.

During the Carnival Pride's seven-day eastern Caribbean cruises, golfers can play magnificent Mahogany Run in St. Thomas, a George and Tom Fazio-designed course located along the island's scenic coastline. This course boasts the aptly named "Devil's Triangle," featuring three of the most challenging holes in the Caribbean.

Also featured on the eastern route is St. Maarten's Mullet Bay, whose lush, rolling terrain, small greens and swirling ocean breezes make for a challenging round. Half of the course's holes face the ocean, providing golfers a picturesque setting, as well.

Carnival Pride's western Caribbean route features the new Cozumel Country Club, the island's first and only world championship-caliber course created by the renowned Nicklaus design team. Incorporating the natural habitat of the island, the course was built around native trees, mangroves and wetlands, creating a truly spectacular golf venue.

Western Caribbean cruises also include the Key West Country Club, the southernmost golf course in the continental U. S. encompassing more than 200 acres of native Florida Keys foliage. Masterfully designed by golf legend Rees Jones, this course offers a landscape of stately palms, dense mangroves, serene lakes and rolling hills, which, combined with its challenging layout, adds up to a unforgettable golf outing.

Private lessons are provided both aboard ship and during golfing excursions by golf professionals who combine their years of experience with state-of-the-art "V1" digital teaching technology to help golfers of any proficiency level improve their game.

Shipboard lessons are available in 30- or 60-minute increments and take place in a netted "driving range" where golfers' swings are videotaped and then analyzed via computer by the professional on board. A take-home video re-cap, complete with step-by-step voice-over instruction and stop-action/slow-motion analysis, is included with each lesson.

Port-of-call excursion packages include green fees, professional instruction, cart rental and transportation to and from shoreside courses. Equipment rental, including top-of-the-line Callaway clubs and Adidas golf shoes, is also available. A wide variety of golfing accessories such as golf balls, gloves, tees, etc. are available for purchase, as well.

The program, which is managed by South Florida-based Elite Golf Cruises, is featured aboard all 16 Carnival "Fun Ships."

Guests can make advance reservations on-line via www. carnivalgolf. com or by calling Elite Golf at 1-800-324-1106 prior to their cruise. They can also visit the shore excursion information desk once on board.

Prices for the Carnival Pride's all-inclusive golf excursions begin at $130 per person per 18-hole round, including on-site instruction from golf professionals. Professional on-board lessons range in price from $25 for a "swing check" to $80 for a complete one-hour instructional video analysis with take-home video.

Carnival Cruise Lines | Fellow Passengers

Carnival carries a wide cross-section of salt-of-the-earth Americans: high-rolling, single twenty-somethings, young parents with toddlers, baby boomers, and empty-nesters. During the summer and school breaks, Caribbean, Mexico and Bahamas cruises can carry up to 700 children each. Carnival has now lived down its reputation as a "party-ship," but unfortunately, there are apt to people who still haven't gotten the message. So, if you have a neighbor who feels its appropriate to continue drinking until 2:00 am with the cabin door open, be sure and call the front office - anonymously.

Carnival Cruise Lines Experience

Bring some heavy-duty sunglasses; thanks to the boundless imaginative (some would say hallucinogenic) designs of inventive designer Joe Farcus, Carnival ships are fervently garish. So much so that we feel compelled to coin a word to describe them; Farcusian. You can be munching a slice of pizza in Imagination's Lido deck, for instance, minding your own business, and suddenly realize you've been mesmerized by the bright purple and green neon tubing on the ceiling. Bring a sense of humor along with the sunglasses, and be ready to dispel all preconceived notions of acceptable color combinations.

Think Mardi Gras at sea. By day, young singles sip little-umbrella-laden cocktails, and then dance on deck to a live band. But it's by night that the action really goes into overdrive, with dozens of venues offering everything from lavish production shows to R-rated comics. There's a jazz bar whose patrons are urged to sing. You can hear funky blues or enjoy some torrid disco action. And both the casino and disco stay open very late, while the library, just for comparison, is open 60 minutes per day!

You'll encounter a very wide range of passengers, from singles, to the retired, to multi-kid young families, the latter especially during the summer and school vacation periods. When you want to get away from it all, you'll do so in some of the largest cabins at sea. The food's mostly delicious, and you'll marvel at how well managed everything is, especially considering how many passengers are apt to be aboard.

The price you pay for the never-ending fun on these ships is that you begin to feel as though you're never more than a few seconds from an announcement of another zany contest -- belly-flopping or hairiest chest, anyone? In fact, if you plan on using your cruise to catch up on some much needed rest and a trashy novel, a set of eyeblinders and ear plugs are recommended.

That said, Carnival can be one of the best deals around. With outside staterooms, even balconies, available for less than a thousand dollars per person per week (if you shop around), Carnival may well offer the most bang for the mid-price cruiser's buck.

Carnival Cruise Line Fleet (26)

For nine years, starting in 1990, Carnival designed, produced and launched its immensely successful Fantasy-class ships, 2,052-passenger vessels measuring 70,367 tons; these include Carnival Fantasy. Carnival Ecstasy. Carnival Sensation. Carnival Fascination. Carnival Imagination. Carnival Inspiration. Carnival Elation and Carnival Paradise. Market changes, however, dictated new designs with more balconies and cushier staterooms. Carnival Destiny (now Carnival Sunshine), a 101,353-ton ship carrying 2,642 passengers, debuted in 1996; two sister ships followed -- Carnival Triumph in 1999 and Carnival Victory in 2000 -- both of which added 700 tons and 58 staterooms, bringing their capacities to 2,758 passengers each.

Carnival continued to add to its fleet through an aggressive new-build program, with Carnival Spirit launching in 2001 and three new additions in 2002: Carnival Pride. Carnival Legend and Carnival Conquest. In 2003, Carnival Glory. the second in the Conquest class, debuted. Two more vessels emerge from Italy's Fincantieri shipyard in 2004: Carnival Miracle in March 2004, part of the Spirit class, and Carnival Valor. another Conquest-class vessel. A fourth Conquest-class ship, Carnival Liberty. launched in 2005. Carnival Freedom. the fifth and final in the Conquest class launched in 2007. Carnival Splendor. slightly larger than Conquest-class vessels, debuted in July 2008.

In 2009, Carnival introduced its largest ship yet -- Carnival Dream -- measuring 128,251 tons and carrying 3,646 passengers double occupancy. The ship is mainly an evolution of its predecessors, but does feature a few innovations, such as deluxe oceanview cabins for five with two bathrooms, a two-level adults-only Serenity area, and the longest water slide at sea. Sister ship Carnival Magic. which carries 3,690 passengers, entered service in June 2011, and Carnival Breeze debuted in June 2012.

The line's newest and largest ship, Carnival Vista -- the flagship for the line's new Vista Class -- sailed its maiden voyage in May 2016, kicking off a season of Europe itineraries. A second Vista-class ship is on order and slated for delivery in March 2018.

Since 2007, Carnival has been pumping big bucks into fleet upgrades. Over the past few years, it's committed $350 million to its eight Fantasy-class vessels, adding new deck spaces, water slides and kids' facilities as part of the "Evolutions of Fun" initiative. "Fun Ship 2.0," a $500 million program launched in 2011, covered much of the rest of the fleet. Numerous ships gained new themed bars, dining venues -- including Guy Fieri's Guy's Burger Joint -- and comedy clubs, among other additions. The program also included one of the most dramatic single-ship refurbishments in contemporary cruising: In 2013, Carnival Destiny underwent a $155 million transformation culminating in a name change. After its release from a 49-day dry-dock, Carnival Destiny became Carnival Sunshine.

Carnival Cruise Line – Contemporary Cruise Line

About Carnival Cruise Line:

This line’s combination of quality, value and fun has made Carnival Cruise Line the world’s most popular cruise line; they carry more passengers than any other cruise line.

Carnival Cruise Line guests experience a considerable variety of on-board dining, entertainment and activity options; the line is constantly upgrading its ships and adding new attractions. The ships of Carnival Cruise Line have become increasingly popular with young families, and they carry more than 700,000 youngsters every year, more than half of all children who travel on a cruise.

The reasons for this popularity include budget-friendly pricing and promotions and the constant addition of family-oriented programs and amenities. In 2014, Carnival Cruise Line incorporated Dr. Seuss characters, meals, books, movies and story-time into its children’s programs. This enhancement brought Carnival Cruise Line in line with Norwegian Cruise Line, which has Nickelodeon, and Royal Caribbean, which has Dreamworks characters.

Best for:

Families, couples and young adults looking for adventure and sports activities; older adults who want a “fun” cruise at a budget price; families with small children; families with teen-agers; family reunions, multi-generational; first time cruisers who want a budget-friendly holiday.

Atmosphere and experience on board:

Carnival Cruise Line’s vessels are known as “Fun Ships,” with non-stop, fast-paced active fun. The ships are decorated in bright colors, with relatively spacious cabins, and varied entertainment and options. As most itineraries center on warm-weather destinations, upgraded water parks, slides, pools, etc. are major attractions on its ships.

A Carnival Cruise Line cruise will feature at least one formal evening (two during a one-week itinerary), with men wearing either tuxedos or jackets and ties and women wearing either gowns or cocktail dresses. The rest of the time, resort casual attire prevails.

Given the large number of children found on a Carnival Cruise Line ship, especially during school holidays, it’s appropriate that the ships have adults-only outdoor areas, comedy performances for adults (as well as for families) and large, full-featured spas.

Carnival Cruise Line’s ticket prices and frequent promotions offer solid, sometimes unbeatable, value.

The destinations served by Carnival Cruise Line:

Alaska Australia Bahamas Bermuda Canada and New England Caribbean Europe Hawaii Mexico Panama Canal

The clientele of Carnival Cruise Line:

Although the line’s marketing reflects a youthful image, it demographic indicates an average age of 45+. Many passengers will be first time cruisers, couples, singles, and multi-generational families looking for a good value in cruising and a wide range of entertainment options.

Regarding children onboard Carnival Cruise Line. Minimum age for sailing will be generally 6 months and 12 months for Transatlantic, Hawaii and South American cruises. Camp Carnival is unable to accept children UNDER the age of 2 during activity times. There are no age exceptions to this policy.
